Children
are our future, and they add great meaning to our lives. At our school, we feel
that children and the child’s environment should be treated with the greatest
possible respect.
We believe classrooms should be exciting and thriving
environments, providing opportunities for endless exploration – environments
that are alive and calling the child to his or her best ability. We believe
in exceptional teachers, dedicated to the developmental needs of the whole child,
who will challenge children to actively pursue their interests while developing
respect for the environment, other people and other cultures.
Mission
statement:
We
believe that growth is an orderly, predictable and sequential process and that
learning is a life-long continuum; each stage of development is preparation
for the next. Therefore, we seek to take each child from their unique point
on the continuum and move them forward, developing a healthy sense of self and
an inner quest for knowledge.
History
of the school:
We
started our school in Petaluma in 1975, with 15 preschool children. Since then
we have added an elementary and a toddler program, bringing our enrollment to
one hundred and forty children. The tenure of our head
teacher staff averages sixteen years.
We
have two campuses. The Toddler through Kindergarten classes are located at 825
Middlefield Drive in Petaluma. This safe and beautiful site has a view of the
entire Petaluma Valley. Our Elementary program is located at 211 Spring Hill
Road, about a mile west of downtown Petaluma -- at the site of the historic
“Marin School” built in 1873 – and is a lovely, fun country
setting.
